Please meet Becky (legally blind) and her 13 year old daughter, Prisyla who have been through a lot lately. This past fall, both Becky and husband, Scott, fell sick with Covid. Unfortunately, Scott passed away. When Becky notified Scott’s parents of their son’s death, Scott’s father went into cardiac arrest and passed away the next day. Within 48 hours, Prisyla lost her Father and Grandfather.
Their home in Easley is not in good shape and now with limited income, they are struggling to pay the utility bills. There is extensive damage to the outside of the home due to years of roof leaks. There is also damage from the tub and shower leaking in both bathrooms as well as kitchen cabinet and floor damage. There are gaps around the exterior doors and broken windows so they are struggling to stay warm with space heaters which are dangerous and expensive to operate. Their HVAC system needs to be replaced.
We have planned extensive repairs to get their home to safe, secure and energy efficient condition. The budget for all of these repairs is $13,125.00.
In addition to monetary support we need VOLUNTEERS! We will begin work on January 25th and anticipate that it will take three weeks to complete. We will be working Tuesday – Thursday each week starting at 9:00 AM. We can use you mornings, afternoons or all day. Pleas click the volunteer button to help. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
PROJECT DETAILS
We are pleased to report that we have completed the extensive renovations to the Richardson’s home. Becky’s church, Cross Roads Baptist was amazing with their financial, volunteer and lunch support. Pastor Phil Henry even came out and worked most days. We also had help from Zion UMC and Buncombe Street UMC. A project this size could not have happened without great volunteer support.
In the beginning Becky shared the following: “I would love to have a home I can be proud to invite people in to. I’ve been embarrassed for people to see our home but really want to have gatherings here for Bible study, game nights, dinners, and my daughters friends to just hang out.”
Well Becky, you have that home now. In fact, it is Prisyla’s fourteenth birthday in a couple of weeks and she is wanting to invite ten of her closest friends to come for a sleep over. Not sure Becky has agreed to that but we’ll see………….Changing lives? I think so!!
Becky has begun painting all of the walls. When the painting is complete, we plan to have a Home Dedication to celebrate what God has done through His willing servants.
There is literally no part of the interior of the home that hasn’t been touched….a new HVAC system, repaired ceilings, updated electrical, ceiling fans, lights, plumbing, a complete kitchen remodel with new cabinets and counter tops, flooring, dishwasher and a stove. Prisyla’s bathroom has new everything. A living room and laundry room remodel and relocated to the storage room. Becky’s bathroom has a much larger shower, new vanity, shelves and a dressing area. Every room has new flooring.
