CharlieMeet Charlie Richardson (42) from Belton, SC.  Due to his battle with diabetes, Charlie has lost both of his legs.  He was employed as a machinist up until July 2016 when he lost one leg, then one year later he lost the other one.  Charlie lives alone and is on a fixed income, so he is not financially able to make his home ADA compliant.

He currently  has to stop at the top of a set of two steps, crawl down from his wheel chair, drag himself down the two steps, then scoot down a narrow passage to the only bathroom in his home. He then has to pull himself up and over the tub side to take a shower or up onto the toilet from the floor.  Narrow doorways  prevent him access to parts of his home while in his wheelchair.  This, of course, could be a very dangerous situation for him in case of a fire or other emergency.

We will be converting an extra bedroom into an ADA compliant bathroom and laundry room, which is currently outside on the back porch.  We will also expand the doorway to his bedroom which will give him a safe egress in case of fire.

We are in need of six volunteers for May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.  If you can help us, please click the “Volunteer” button.

Our budget for this project is $4,000.00.  We would appreciate your help in making Charlie’s home ADA compliant and safe.  Any amount would be an enormous help.  To do so, please click the “Make a Donation” button. Thank you.

PROJECT DETAILS

May 18, 2018

“Now that I don’t have to crawl on the floor to use my bathroom and laundry, my legs can heal. This will allow me to get fitted for prosthetic legs.  Thanks to the great work of Emmanuel’s Hammer and their volunteers, I will be able to walk again!”       -Charlie Richardson

Talk about making a profound difference in someone’s quality of life!!  It is not always this dramatic, but our work is always rewarding.

Charlie now has a new ADA bathroom and laundry on the same level as the rest of the house.  He is so grateful for the volunteers and financial donors who followed the Lord’s leading to make this transaction possible.

BEFORE: He had to crawl down 2 steps & drag himself down the hall to the tub & toilet

AFTER: Charlie is a happy man!! Everything is on the same level; roll-in shower, roll-under vanity, ADA toilet, grab bars, and new laundry.
