Meet Mr. John Brewer who is 71 years old and a Veteran who served in the Air Force (Strategic Air Command) from 1970 through 1974.
He lives in his childhood home in Greenville that was built in 1935.
Mr. Brewer currently suffers from congestive heart failure, kidney disease, and stage four prostate cancer. Due to his severe health issues and low fixed income, his home is in need of numerous repairs and updates. These include a leaky roof, internal ceiling damage, a complete bathroom remodel where we will repair the rotted floor, replace the vanity and tub with a walk-in shower. His plumbing leaks, the floors in the living room and kitchen need to be reinforced, new floor covering installed and windows replaced. His 25 year old central air & heat doesn’t work. He relies on window AC units and space heaters.
No veteran deserves to live in these conditions. We are partnering with Greer Community Outreach to obtain a grant for a total roof replacement. The budget for the improvements, including the HVAC, is $10,500.00

PROJECT DETAILS
We continue to get one of our special veterans fixed up for Christmas! He now has a new roof via a grant provided by Greer Community Outreach. Now that the roof is complete, we have begun to repair the ceilings that were damaged by the leaks.
He was very complimentary of the Thanksgiving feast that Upstate Warrior Solution provided. He has had a blessed Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas indeed.
Mr. Brewer received a new HVAC system just in time for Veteran’s Day.
We received this comment from him this morning…..”I just spent the first night in a long time with a warm home. Had forgotten what central heat felt like…….being able to walk from room to room without first pulling on a jacket. Thanks again for making it happen. May God bless you!”
Thanks to all who have helped to make this a most special Veteran’s Day for Mr. Brewer. Still to come: new roof, water damage repair and kitchen repair.
Mr. Brewer has a new bathroom. His own words speak volumes….
“I wanted to write and express how grateful I am for what you are allowing God to do through you on my behalf. My life had been full of suffering, and I had given up hope of ever seeing the goodness of God again, here in the land of the living. Now, I am starting to feel like that lie has been dealt with.
Apparently, living in grunge isn’t too conducive to a positive mindset. I believe by the time this is done, I will feel like a new man, if the boost I’ve gotten from the bathroom upgrade is any indication.
So thank you for caring about me enough to take action. May your eternal treasure be greatly increased!”………
We are in the process of getting his roof replaced through Greer Community Outreach. Once that is completed, we can continue with patching the ceiling and other interior improvements. We are also having the HVAC unit evaluated for replacement. This Veteran’s Day will indeed be a special one for Mr. Brewer.
